Seedstartup, a venture capital fund is promoting start up firms in the Gulf region. It organized an event where 60 guests attended from the United Arab Emirates and other Gulf countries. They attendees presented business plans to attract investors and venture capital funding. The organization invests between $20,000 and $25,000 in business plans, which have bright prospects. In return, they take 10% equity. The founder of this organization Rony el-Nashar commented that this is a high risk they are taking in business as investing in practically nothing. Entrepreneurs who are part of this program are required to stay for 3 months in Dubai. The organization mentors them and gives an opportunity to pitch their ideas to investors.
The Gulf region is witnessing many new and innovative businesses coming in different cities. New Initiative by Ministry of Labour

New Vacancies in Domestic Work in UAE


The UAE households are demanding of more housemaids. And reciprocating to this demand, many Nepali women are coming and joining in UAE homes. Many Nepali women are joining everyday as housemaids. This is informed by the Nepali embassy in Abu Dhabi. The Himalayan kingdom of Nepal has lifted the ban on working as domestic help in Gulf nations. Dubai has large number of expats who also require housemaids. The Vacancies in Dubai for domestic work is therefore immense. 
This ban was lifted after Nepal made some strict rules safeguarding the interest of women and workers in Gulf countries. The workers, mostly women, were vulnerable as some recruitment agencies hire with unscrupulous means. The new rule made by the government defines wages and other benefits made to the housemaids in UAE. 
For the UAE nationals who are planning to recruit Nepali domestic workers, the direct point of contact is the Nepali Embassy and not any recruitment agencies. The UAE nationals have to apply in the Nepali embassy. The applicant has to submit the family status and a deposit of Dirham 5,000. The wage for the domestic help in UAE for Nepali women is fixed at Dh900 (Rs 21,700) a month. Added to the wage, other benefits are accommodation and food. 
The Nepali embassy reported that it has received many applications for housemaids. The deputy of mission said that after the introduction of tough rules, the number of complaints has come down. The Department of Foreign Employment mentioned that about 4,523 Nepali women joined in the current years as against 1,911 in 2011. The number is doubled after the strict rules ensuring safety and rights of workers.

Jobseekers are Applying Online


Job vacancies posted online by Gulf countries are attracting jobseekers. Online job postings are the new preferred way of finding jobs. One of the well-known recruitment companies conducted a study and found out that 90% of jobseekers are preferring finding new employment opportunities through online advertisements. The study was conducted on major companies of the Gulf Corporation Council (GCC). These companies hire from Southeast Asia and Middle East. According to these companies, most of responses received are online.
Hiring Solutions Company conducted this study. The period of study was from July to December 2011. In this study, about 1.1 million applications was reviewed out of which 6,193 applications were focused. The reviewers then asked the jobseekers through which channels they applied for the job vacancies.
About 45% of applicants said that they applied for jobs through employers’ website. This study particularly noted that most the employers have not advertised online for vacant openings in their companies. After the outcome, this study also predicted that more employers would use the online medium to advertise their job openings. The important reason being jobseekers are now relying heavily on the social media and employment websites to search for jobs.
Jobseekers can apply for vacant positions through various channels. Online sites, job and career fairs and also through employment agencies- these are some ways thorough which they can find jobs in UAE. Many well-known companies of UAE are located in Dubai. Thousands of jobs in Dubai are posted online. According to this study, career fairs and newspaper job classifieds had poor responses.
In another surprising outcome, 23% of applicants hired are from employer talent pools. the overall result of this study is that as more companies are becoming web-savvy, the role of recruitment agencies are diminishing. Only 6% of candidates hired came from recruitment agencies.
